Obama's Minister

Chicago--I'm not understanding the reaction to this guy--everything he said was essentially true, but there it is: the truth hurts. If it hadn't been true at all, White Americans could have simply shrugged-it-off and moved-on. As a matter-of-fact, the reaction to his sermon really only confirms what he said. I know-I know: Obama needs to WIN. He wants those straying conservative votes, and the closeted racist pseudo-liberal ones (they're more racist than conservatives, and less honest about it). Watch the fangs come out when the truth hits. Too bad. The ancients noted that ignorance loves to parade itself everywhere it can. American culture embodies this daily.

No, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. was getting the same reaction that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. got over forty-years-ago when he came out against the war in Vietnam, and he's being indirectly told, "Shut-up nigger, we do the talking." Time to wake-up White America: you suck, you're racists, and merely voting for a Black man won't free you from that deep-seated guilt you've been feeling. Racists should feel guilty, it's natural. No Black God will forgive you without a change in your hearts. The living won't be so forgiving when the economy crashes. Is this why Congress and the White House want to spy on all of us so badly? Perhaps it's also why Canada and America recently signed an agreement where either nation can send troops into the other's territory to quell domestic uprisings and disorder, and why habeas corpus is still suspended.

But, even a ten-year-old would know that this change-of-heart has to come. It takes years of selling-out, empty compromises and rationalizing to be an American "adult." America is literally teeming with this kind of individual, the "organization man," and some of them are Black. Greed and wanton aggressiveness has no color-boundary. Sell-outs come in a variety-of-colors, especially in the world of hip-hop, high finance, and the corporate suite. Yet, the laws of physics are still holding, and it's all going to come crashing-down eventually, and soon. Denying reality won't change this, only a behavioral change will, and some recognition that many of the assumptions regarding our economy have never really worked. We're seeing that these assumptions don't work very well without New Deal safeguards, or we would having an economic depression every few years as we did during the 19th century.

Racism is a really ingrained aspect of our culture. We White Americans are arrogant, presumptuous, and profoundly ignorant and xenophobic, it's a simple fact. Granted, many Black Americans are racist too, but who's been on the receiving-end of America's brutality and exploitation most? That's right, the Native Americans! And so have Black Americans. I enjoin all my fellow White Americans to support the Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr. in all of this. He and other Black Americans have something to teach us, as they have throughout our history. The victims of America have the most important stories to tell. My advice is to support the Reverend Wright--write him a friendly e-mail of support, a call, a card, and a donation. Would the American Revolution have even begun without Crispus Attucks?

Wright's saying the right things at a time when they need to be said. Social redemption means changing one's behavior, and lip-service-be-damned. All this said, somehow...somehow the media cares more about what the idiotic cult-leader Louis Farrakhan has to say, one of the voices who called for the murder of Malcolm X 43-years-ago. Remember reading about slavery, or the Holocaust? Remember saying to yourself, "Were they stupid? Why did they put-up with that?!" Welcome to why not, your wondering is over. Yes, we're just that stupid, it seems.
